CUPE Local 4800 members keep a careful watch to ensure dangerous bacteria do not spread through the hospital food system. They keep the hospital kitchens spotless. Unlike food services contracted to non-hospital companies, Hamilton's hospital kitchens can be closely monitored for safe, sanitary conditions. Another way to keep food safe is to make sure it's served hot when it's supposed to be hot. Temperature control becomes a bigger issue when food has to be trucked in from an outside supplier. Keeping meal preparation in the hospital is only sensible as a way to prevent infection.
